BEST for DIY: DeWalt Miter Saw
Calling all DIY'ers!
You may think that this saw is only for professionals, but think again, it's ideal for the carpentry enthusiast or diy'er.
If you're still cutting lengths of lumber with a handsaw, think how easy your life would be with a little automation. I've only just bought myself this actual miter saw along with a bespoke stand, and just don't know how and why I've muddled through sawing wood manually for all these years.
If you ever cut thick planks of timber for roof purlins or floor boards or have to make a large number of cuts, then why do it by hand? The speed this saw performs each cut is super fast. You won't have sawdust flying around as it comes with a neat little bag which attaches to the rear of the saw to catch it.
What's Special about this Miter Saw?
Firstly, DeWalt have engineered a highly professional saw which is not too expensive for the home market. The days of cutting copious quantities of wood by hand are over, so if you don't want to end up with 'tennis elbow' (inflammation of the elbow joints), then this is the way to go. That's exactly what happened to me, but unfortunately, I only bought the saw after I damaged my elbow - foolish!
Secondly, with such a diverse machine which can miter at any angle, tasks take less time than before and become more fun. Spend the time saved measuring accurately and planning your project rather than sweating it out.
The DeWalt DW715 15-Amp 12-Inch compound miter saw allows the user to make perfect cuts with angles every time. In particular, it's light enough to be carried easily from your car or van into the room you're working in.
Work Stand is Worth it!
If you're sensible, you'll soon get the heavy duty miter saw stand as well, which will allow you to operate the saw at a correct posture height while the lengths of lumber are neatly laid down on the extendible bench. Therefore, you can avoid trying to balance the wood while cutting at the same time.
This stand has won awards for its ergonomic design, and I'm not surprised. Soon after mine was delivered, a building contractor who was building an extension to our house, saw me using it, and quickly asked where I got it. I noticed he was just using two trestle horses which were bulky and heavy to use. He immediately asked me to get one for him!
Safety Comes First
The saw comes fully fitted with a retractable safety guard, but whenever you use one don't forget about other safety equipment, especially eye goggles. Remember, more haste, less speed!
Beveling is Made Simple
The DeWalt DW715 is a single-bevel compound miter saw, which means that it’s able to perform two cutting angles with one pass of the blade. The arm of the saw can be swung from left to right enabling miter cuts up to 50 degree angles in both directions to be made while the saw blade is perpendicular to the base platform.
Some specialized trim work also requires a bevel cut to be made, this is where this model of miter saw excels. Being able to perform two cuts in one stroke with ease, a miter and a bevel, increases the work rate and reduces cutting errors. Basically, this saw can cut virtually any angle at all.
I thought when I first bought mine that it was a bit of a luxury, but not now. I use it all the time - even for light timber - and my elbows are very thankful for it!
