The Photoshop Book for Photographers

Updated on January 10, 2014

Scott Kelby, the author of this really useful book is renowned for his Adobe Photoshop tutorial books, and if you've ever come across any of them before you'll know what a wiz he is. But be warned, he has a wicked sense of humor!

He produces training books like none other in the world of photography and design. He is the Editor-in-Chief for Photoshop User magazine and teaches photography and Photoshop at his KelbyTraining.com site.

Most Photographers Need Photo Editing Software

I can rarely take a photo that doesn't need at least a tiny bit of tweaking, maybe the exposure wasn't quite right, or the odd distraction was in the way. We don't always compose our pictures as well as we'd like, or something else has spoilt what could have been a great shot.

Not to worry! With this comprehensive book, you get tips and advice on loads of detailed Photoshop stuff which will help you not only understand how to carry out the task, but also walk you through each stage.

Camera RAW

What is it? A camera raw file of an image that contains all the unprocessed data, which can later be manipulated to your own liking in a photo editing program. You're able to adjust many settings, from exposure and highlights to vibrance and saturation, and more in between.

The secret behind most successful images have been manipulated in camera raw, so it's a good idea to enable this setting in your camera in the first place. By only saving each photo as a .jpg, you only have the finished processed image to work with. However, by enabling camera raw as well - you'll then have access to all the original data should you ever require it.

This book is extremely useful, and the tutorials are clear and concise when it comes to understanding camera raw properly. Scott Kelby knows more than most when it comes to working in Adobe Photoshop, and I've certainly learned a lot from it.

If you want to transform any dull or poorly exposed images, the book will walk you through each process in turn. You'll be thrilled with the results and never look back to those dull images again!
